Mashantucket Tribe wins ruling on drug discounts

An administrative law judge from the Department of Interior Office of Hearing and Appeals has ruled in favor of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation's drug discount program.
In a March 10 ruling, Judge Andrew S. Pearlstein said the Pequot Pharmaceutical Network is operating within the law. He cited a provision in the Indian Health Care Improvement Act that allows tribal governments to extend drug discounts to people who might not otherwise be eligible for Indian Health Service benefits.
The tribe offers discounts to non-Indian employees and their families. The savings are estimated at $2.5 million a year.
