NCAI accepts recycled Abramoff donation
Monday, April 3, 2006

The National Congress of American Indians is accepting $20,000 from Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Montana), who has given away the last of his donations linked to sentenced convict Jack Abramoff.

The $20,000 was initially given to Burns by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan, one of Abramoff's former clients. It is one of many donations Burns has gotten rid of since the scandal broke.

In addition to the NCAI donation, $25,000 from the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana will go to the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute in New Mexico; $30,000 from the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians will go to the Choctaw Community Fund; and $20,000 from the Tigua tribe of El Paso will go to the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo Heritage Corp. Another $5,000 contribution from Abramoff also will be donated to the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo Heritage Corp.

Burns received more than $150,000 from Abramoff, his associates and his clients. The amount was the most of any member of Congress.
