Ramapough man shot by state police officer dies

Emil Mann, a member of the Ramapough Lenape Indian Nation who was shot by a New Jersey state park police officer, died in the hospital on Monday.
Mann, whose age has been reported in the early 40s, was shot in the chest and leg on April 1 during an incident near the tribe's reservation. He was in critical condition as controversy swirled over the actions of the police officers.
The state attorney general is investigating the shooting. The county prosecutor has said the police officers overstepped their jurisdiction because the incident happened on private, not state, land.
The tribe is recognized in the state of New Jersey. The Bureau of Indian Affairs rejected the tribe's federal recognition petition.
