Rep. Doolittle tells Mormons of media 'attacks'
Tuesday, April 25, 2006

Rep. John Doolittle (R-California), who believes Jack Abramoff did a good job for tribes, is slamming the media in an e-mail sent to fellow Mormons in the northern California area.

Doolittle claims the media has made an issue of his Mormon religion because he supported gaming tribes, worked with Abramoff's gaming clients and held a fundraiser at a Las Vegas casino. Mormons typically take a dim view of gambling.

"I take attacks on my honor very seriously, particularly because of my well-known membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints," the e-mail stated, according to The Sacramento Bee.

Doolittle said he supported the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, a former client of Abramoff's, because the tribe has exploited the "free-enterprise" by creating casinos and other businesses.
