Rep. Pombo said to be in 'trouble' over Abramoff

Rep. Richard Pombo (R-California) and his connections to Jack Abramoff have become an issue as he faces re-election this November.
"I'd say he's in trouble," a Republican consultant told The New York Times.
Pombo accepted $40,000 in campaign contributions from Abramoff and his clients. As chairman of the House Resources Committee, he introduced legislation and held a hearing to benefit the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts, who hired Abramoff's firm.
Pombo acknowledged he met with Abramoff on a few occasions and one of his former staffers was a guest at Abramoff's luxury skybox. But he denied any improprieties.
He has donated $7,000 of his Abramoff money to the Red Lake Nation in Minnesota.
