Chairman of Fond du Lac Band abruptly resigns

Peter Defoe, the chairman of the Fond du Lac Band of Ojibwe in Minnesota, abruptly resigned his post after two years on the job.
Defoe was elected July 2004. He was the first new chairman for the tribe in 16 years.
Vice Chairman V.R. "Butch" Martineau said Defoe didn't give a specific reason for leaving. Secretary/Treasurer Ferdinand Martineau Jr. said the move was not unexpected.
A special election will be held within 141 days.
