Man arraigned for crash that killed Pueblo storyteller

A Mexican national was arraigned on one charge of vehicular homicide for a car accident that claimed the life of 94-year-old Esther Martinez, a nationally recognized Pueblo storyteller and linguist.
Jaime Martínez González, 44, was arraigned in the hospital. He suffered injuries are his truck ran head-on into the car carrying Martinez and her two daughters.
Martinez died on the scene. Her daughters suffered injuries but are recovering. They were on their way back to Ohkay Owingeh, formerly known as San Juan Pueblo, after returning from Washington, D.C., where Martinez received a National Heritage Fellowship.
Police say González was drinking. They smelled alcohol on his breath and found a container of liquor in his truck.
