Southwest tribes to continue fight for sacred site

As tribes in the Southwest wait on a decision from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Navajo Nation will spent $50,000 on a public relations campaign for the sacred San Francisco Peaks.

The campaign seeks to stop the sale of reclaimed wastewater to the Arizona Snowbowl, a ski resort in the peaks. The resort was given approval by the U.S. Forest Service to use the wastewater to make snow.

Tribes say the fake snow will desecrate the peaks, the home to spiritual beings. Tribal members also go there to gather important plant and herbs.
