Havasupai Tribe presses suit over misuse of blood

The Havasupai Tribe of Arizona has been working nationwide to garner support for a lawsuit against Arizona State University.

The tribe submitted more than 400 blood samples to ASU for diabetes research. They later found out that the blood was used for studies on migration, schizophrenia and inbreeding.

The tribe and individual tribal members filed two lawsuits in federal court but both have been moved to state court. A trial date has not been set

As the case moves forward, the tribe has received financial and other support from the National Congress of American Indians, the InterTribal Council of Arizona and various tribes.
