Indian center in Green Bay at risk of losing funds

The United Amerindian Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin, has until the end of March 2007 to make a series of changes or lose its federal funding.
The center has failed to meet requirements of the Indian Health Services. Among other tasks, it must hire a permanent executive director, define its mission and create a community advisory board.
To many, the center knows its mission. It provides health screenings, drug and alcohol counseling, help for elders, transportation for those in need and computers for those seeking a job.
Started in 1976 by Shirley Hill, a member of the Oneida Nation, the center mainly serves Oneidas but is also open to other American Indians and Alaska Natives.
