The family of Matthew Dumas filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the police department in Winnipeg over the fatal shooting of the Metis teenager.
Dumas, 18, was killed in January 2005. He was being chased by two police officers, who had considered him a suspect in a robbery.
The officers were cleared of wrongdoing. But Jessica Paul, Dumas's sister, seeks $120,000 on behalf of her family. The city of Winnipeg is also named as a defendant.
The shooting came in the same week police officers shot and killed another Native man in Winnipeg.
