The American Indian College Fund has received a $17.5 million grant from the Lilly Endowment for scholarships and to expand tribal colleges.

Of the grant, $1 million will be used to create a scholarship fund. It will provide full-ride for students who graduate in the top 10 percent of their high school classes.

The remainder of the grant will be used to build intellectual capital at the nation's 32 tribal colleges. AICF will draw up proposals on how to spend the money.
