Public school in Massachusetts drops 'Redmen' nick

The public school district in Natick, Massachusetts, voted 4-3 on Monday night to drop the use of the "Redmen" nickname.

School committee members heard arguments for an against the nickname. "Redmen is as offensive as white men and yellow men. It's the same as the 'N' word," Dan Loudfoot said, The MetroWest Daily News reported.

Discussions about name started last December. The vote eliminates "Redmen" starting in the 2008-2009 school year.
