Washington GOP tries to limit tribal donations

Washington Republicans were defeated in their attempt to limit tribal political donations in the state..

GOP lawmakers sought to add a provision to a tribal gas compact bill. They wanted to bar the governor from accepting funds from tribes or groups that are negotiating contracts or compacts.

House Democrats rejected the proposal and passed the gas compact bill. A similar bill has already passed the Senate.

Gov. Chris Gregoire (D) plans to sign agreements with tribes to share revenues from gas taxes. Two tribes have already entered into compacts.
