Bill recognizes Meskwaki Tribe's court decisions

The Iowa Senate approved a bill to require state courts to recognize decisions made by the Meskwaki Tribe's court system.

The bill only affects civil matters, such as divorces and child support cases. It allows people to file objections to tribal court decisions in state court and requires the tribe to recognize state court rulings.

The bill was approved by a 27-20 vote. It goes to the House for consideration.
