Winnebago man pleased with firing of Don Imus

Frank LaMere, a member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, is happy to see radio talk show host Don Imus go.
LaMere complained in 1994, when Imus made insensitive remarks about Native Americans. After trying to get the show removed from a local radio station, LaMere went on the show to address the issue.
"I told him that he has a great responsibility and a good many people listen to him," LaMere recalls to The Sioux City Journal. "It is easy to pull people apart. It is hard to bring them together."
LaMere never got an apology and the show stayed on the air. But Imus lost his job last week for referring to African-American college women as "nappy-headed hos."
"I think that opposition to his racist and sexist remarks reached critical mass and the American people said enough is enough," LaMere told the paper.
