Indian inmates report problems at Indiana facility

The 19 Indian inmates at the New Castle Correctional Facility in Indiana have been moved to other facilities following a riot last week.

Sally Tuttle, the chairwoman of Native American Indian Voices of Indiana, said the inmates complained about their treatment prior to the riot. They didn't have access to a spiritual leader and their ceremonial items were confiscated or destroyed, she said.

The riot involved 500 inmates at the New Castle facility. It was apparently fueled by anger among inmates who were moved to Indiana from Arizona.
