Pine Ridge students warned about dangers of meth

South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds (R) brought a recovered methamphetamine addict to the Pine Ridge Reservation to warn students about the dangers of the drug.

Jeremy Bucholz, who now works as a drug counselor, described how meth ruined his life. He said he lost his childhood and how he ended up serving two terms in prison after using, making and selling the drug.

High school senior Cheryl Cedar Face said the talk was effective. "It’s different to have someone who’s been there talking to you rather than someone just showing you pictures," she told the Associated Press.

Rounds said 41 percent of new women convicts and 22 percent of new male convicts had meth problems. About three-quarters of the state’s most serious crimes are committed by meth users, he told the students.
