Utah tries to delay action on Goshute waste dump

The state of Utah is trying to delay action on a proposed nuclear waste dump on the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation.

The state says the Interior Department put two hurdle for the Skull Valley Goshute Band to clear before the project can move forward. One involves transportation of waste to the reservation and another concerns the tribe's lease with a consortium of private companies.

The state is already suing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for approving a license for the site. The state now says the D.C. Court of Appeals shouldn't act until the tribe resolves the DOI issues.

The tribe says it will appeal DOI's decisions but has not done so.
