Nisqually Tribe's land transfer stirs debate

The Nisqually Tribe of Washington is seeking to reacquire ancestral land currently held by the Army.

The tribe hopes to obtain 500 acres at Fort Lewis. The plan has angered some residents, who are raising fears of gaming and sovereignty.

But others say the city council in Dupont should say out of the matter. A resolution against the proposed transfer has been withdrawn.

The tribe wants to develop the land but has no plans for gaming, an attorney said.
