Adam Beach "delivers a stirring performance" in the upcoming HBO movie "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee," the Associated Press reports.
Beach plays
Charles Eastman, a Dakota from Minnesota who was a physician and Indian rights advocate in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Eastman was the only doctor at the 1890 massacre at Wounded Knee in South Dakota.
Beach says the movie, which debuts May 27, is about understanding history. "There are still generations who are trying to recover from this assimilation that (the government) tried on our people," he told the AP.
The movie is based on Dee Brown's best-selling book but HBO executives gave Eastman, who had a mixed-race mother, a more prominent role.
