Cayuga Nation to announce land claim settlement

The Cayuga Nation and the state of New York plan to announce a land claim settlement, the Associated Press reported.
The deal would allow the tribe to acquire up to 10,000 acres in trust. A casino could be possible, the AP said.
The Cayuga Nation and the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma sued the state over 64,000 acres of stolen land. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals threw out the case, saying the tribes waited too long to pursue their claims.
The Cayuga Nation has since sought to have some of its ancestral properties placed in trust.
