Town narrowly approves legal fees in Pequot fight

Residents in the town of North Stonington, Connecticut, voted 38-37 to continue fighting the Mashantucket Pequot Nation over a proposed highway expansion.

The town has already spent $67,838 in legal fees to challenge the project. Resident narrowly approved an additional $30,000 amid heated discussion about the effort.

“You're asking us for $30,000 and you're not sure how it's going to be spent,” one resident said, The New London Day reported.

The tribe plans to expand Route 2, which runs through the reservation.
