Yakama Nation, utility district sign agreement

The Yakama Nation of Washington signed an agreement on Monday to end a dispute with the Grant County Public Utility District.

The tribe will receive up to $8 million from the utility to expand its Yakama Power company. In exchange, the tribe won't pursue damage claims against the utility, which operates two dams on the Columbia River.

Yakama Power currently serves parts of the reservation but tribal leaders want to serve the entire 1.2 million-acre reservation.
