First Nation seeks greenhouse to combat diabetes

The Misipawistik Cree First Nation in Manitoba plans to build a greenhouse to combat high rates of diabetes.

Chief Ovide Mercredi said the greenhouse will provide a source of fresh vegetables to community members. It will also generate revenues for the First Nation through sales of produce, he said.

The Jewish National Fund and the province of Maniitoba are sponsoring the project. Israeli experts will share tips about growing produce in harsh climates.
