Coeur d'Alene Tribe pressed to allow recall process

The Coeur d'Alene Tribe of Idaho should have a recall process, activist Kenneth "Wade" Weem says.

Weem is collecting signatures on a petition to amend the constitution. He says tribal members should be able to recall council leaders for mismanagement of tribal assets, bribery, neglect of duty and other offenses.

Weem ran for tribal council but lost. He said he was surprised by the election of former gaming executive David Matheson, who was accused of financial mismanagement by the tribe. Matheson and the council recently settled a lawsuit, which Matheson said was politically motivated.
