Leaders of five Oklahoma tribes attended the Whit House signing of an Indian home loan bill.
President Bush signed H.R.1676 on June 18.
Cherokee Nation Chief Chad Smith, Chickasaw Nation Gov. Bill Anoatubby, Choctaw Nation Assistant Chief Gary Batton, Muscogee Nation Chief A.D. Ellis and Seminole Nation Chief Enoch Kelly Haney attended the ceremony in the Oval Office.
"This program increases homeownership in Indian Country and improves the quality of life in Indian communities,” said Rep. Dan Boren (D-Oklahoma) [Press Release].
The bill extends the Section 184 Loan Guarantee Program at the Department of Housing and Urban Development for another five years. Since 1992, the program has guaranteed $517 million in loans.
