Ex-aide to Rep. Doolittle cooperating with DOJ
Tuesday, June 26, 2007

A former chief of staff to Rep. John Doolittle (R-California), who has faced scrutiny over his ties to Jack Abramoff, is cooperating with the Department of Justice.

David Lopez has turned over campaign finance records to the FBI and has complied with federal subpoenas, his lawyer said. He used to work for Doolittle from 1990 through early 2005.

Doolittle once defended Abramoff's work on behalf of tribes. He inserted comments into the Congressional Record that praised the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. His wife, Julia, used to do consulting work for Abramoff.

Doolittle's former legislative director, Kevin Ring, also worked for Abramoff. Ring quit his lobbying job on the same day FBI agents raided Doolittle's home in northern Virginia.
