Pechanga Band generous to state lawmakers

The Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians spent $32,000 to lobby state lawmakers in the first six months of 2007, The Sacramento Bee reports.

The tribe treated lawmakers and aides to concerts, meals and other gifts. "This has been a very active year for Pechanga," Chairman Mark Macarro in a statement.

The spending came as the tribe sought legislative support for its compact. After months of delays, lawmakers approved the agreements.

Under state law, tribes and other lobbying interests can spend up to $390 per year on gifts for lawmakers and staffers.
