Poarch Creek business wins top minority award

Muskogee Metalworks, a business owned by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, has been named the National Minority Manufacturer of the Year by the Department of Commerce.

The company started 18 years ago and has about 40 employees. Business has picked up in recent years with the addition of government contracts.

Mal McGhee, the general manager of the Metalworks, said gross sales will exceed $12 million this year, with 90 percent coming from the Department of Defense. That's an 300 percent increase from last year, he said.
