Residential school abuse settlement accepted

Canada's billion-dollar residential school abuse settlement was accepted on Monday, with few declining the deal.
Each student will receive a minimum payment is $10,000, plus $3,000 for each year in a residential school.
Those who suffered physical or sexual abuse can get up to $250,000 and up to another $250,000 in lost income.
People who object to the settlement can continue to litigate their claims against Canada and the churches that ran the schools for the government.
Indian Affairs Minister Chuck Strahl, who was just appointed to the job, said his first priority will be distributing the settlement, which is estimated to cost upwards of $2 billion.
