Karuk vice chairman arrested in domestic dispute

Leaf Grant Hillman, the vice chairman of the Karuk Tribe of California, is being asked to step down from his post after being arrested on domestic violence charges.

Hillman was charged with one count corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, and with two special allegations: inflicting great bodily injury and using a deadly weapon. The charges are felonies.

The incident allegedly occurred on July 28, as tribal members were participating in the Jammin' for the Salmon Music Festival. A woman was treated for blunt head trauma and multiple face lacerations after being hit on the head with a beer bottle.

Tribal elders want Hillman to resign.
