First Nations Community Center opens in Iowa

The First Nations Community Center in Sioux City, Iowa, has finally opened its doors to the public.

The center has been in existence for 25 years but never had its own home. Through grants and fundraising, the center pulled together enough money to open a building, which will house the Office of Indian Education and the First Nations Outreach Center.

"This building is going to be the first of its kind," Cynthia Doan, executive director of the Office of Indian Education, told The Sioux City Journal.

About 300 people attended the dedication ceremony last night. Sioux City is not far from the Winnebago and Omaha reservation in Nebraska.
