Mashpee Wampanoag leaders face challenge

Leaders of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts are being asked to call a special meeting to discuss several controversies.

Tribal members submitted a petition with more than 100 signatures. The petition seeks to discuss the tribe's finances, the shunning of four tribal members and former chairman Glenn Marshall.

The tribe won federal recognition in May. A backer said he spent $15 million on the tribe, though Marshall said the effort cost $8 million.

Some tribal members want to know where the money went. So do federal authorities, who are reportedly investigating Marshall and current tribal leaders.
