Ex-cops challenge inquiry into Native teen's death

Two former police officers asked the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal on Monday to invalidate the findings of an inquiry into the death of a Native teen.

Former officers Brad Senger and Larry Hartwig were the last people seen with Neil Stonechild, 17, in November 1990. Days later, his body was found frozen to death on the outskirts of Saskatoon.

A government inquiry found that body marks on Stonechild's body were "likely caused" by police handcuffs. The report led to the firings of Senger and Hartwig.

The former officers deny they had anything to do with Stonechild's death. They say the judge who handled the inquiry overstepped his bounds and essentially convicted both men of a crime for which they were never charged.
