Hopi council session interrupted by protest

The Hopi Tribe of Arizona finally resolved a leadership dispute in August but some tribal members still aren't happy with their council.

The council was holding a regular session on Monday when a group of about 20 protesters, armed with a loudspeaker, interrupted. They demanded the firing of the tribe's general counsel, the removal of the vice chairman and the secretary and an investigation into travel funds.

The protesters appeared to be supporters of chairman Benjamin Nuvamsa. The tribal council removed him because he allegedly did not meet residency requirements for public office.

The Hopi appeals court reinstated Nuvamsa in late August but the protesters say the council is still trying to challenge the decision.
