Tribes to share data with Minneapolis police

Nine tribes Minnesota and Wisconsin have agreed to develop a crime database with the Minneapolis Police Department.

I-CARE, or Indian Crime Awareness, Research and Evaluation, will enable tribal, state and federal law enforcement agencies to share information and statistics on crime. Funded by a $600,000 federal grant, it is believed to be the first system of its kind in the nation.

The Minnesota tribes participating are the Prairie Island Indian Community, the Red Lake Nation, the Fond du Lac Band of Ojibwe, the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. The Wisconsin tribes are the Menominee Nation, the Oneida Nation, the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, and the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Ojibwe.
