Former Oglala vice president guilty of theft

Eileen Janis, a former vice president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, was found guilty of theft.

Janis was charged with one count of theft from a tribal organization. She took more than $22,000 from the tribe in a payroll scheme, federal prosecutors said.

Janis denied the accusations but two others who were charged in connection with the scheme pleaded guilty. Janis will be sentenced January 28, 2008.
