Native woman seeks removal of 'racist' mascots

Francine Dupuis, a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana, continues to fight for the elimination of Indian mascots on the Flathead Reservation.

Dupuis sued the Ronan School District over the use of its "Chiefs" and "Maidens" mascot. She says the symbols are racist and don't honor Native people.

Dupuis met with the school board on Monday to discuss the issue. She hopes to reach a settlement but she wasn't as optimistic as the superintendent.

In December 2006, the Montana Human Rights ruled that the use of the mascots was discriminatory.
