Oneida Nation allows gas station inspection

The Oneida Nation of New York has allowed Madison County to inspect pumps at one of the tribe's gas stations.

The tribe previously rejected the county's inspection, citing its sovereignty. But a spokesperson said the tribe was willing to cooperate with local governments.

The county plans to inspect other tribal-owned gas stations. The county says it has jurisdiction because the land is not held in trust.

The tribe has an application to have 17,000 acres in Madison and Oneida counties placed in trust.
