Blackfeet student wins national Indian scholarship

Jerci Powell, a member of the Blackfeet Nation of Montana, has been awarded a Native American Political Leadership Scholarship at George Washington University.

Powell, a sophomore at Montana State University-Bozeman, is the first in her family to go to college. She will spend a semester in Washington, D.C., to learn about the political process.

"I'm just excited to represent my community back home," Powell told The Great Falls Tribune.

The program selected 20 students this year. Powell is the only one from Montana.
