Top IHS official to retire after 42 years of service

Mary Lou Stanton, a member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe, is retiring from the Indian Health Service after 42 years of service.

"It was a hard decision. Now that I made the decision to retire, I’m happy about it," Stanton told The Pierre Capital Journal.

Stanton is the deputy director for Indian health policy. She received the IHS Director’s National Honor Award on Thursday.
