Pueblo woman takes acting Indian affairs post

Teresa Gomez of Isleta Pueblo has been named acting secretary of Indian Affairs for the state of New Mexico.

Gomez, who has been serving as deputy secretary, takes over from Benny Shendo Jr. The Jemez Pueblo man, the first to hold the Cabinet-level post, resigned to run for U.S. Congress.

Gov. Bill Richardson (D) is conducting a search for a new secretary.
