Auburn Rancheria to buy land to protect sites

The United Auburn Indian Community of northern California announced plans to buy land in order to protect sacred sites and limit a controversial housing development.

The tribe will buy 66 acres from housing developer Clover Valley Partners. The land includes village dwellings, rock art panels, ceremonial sites and four burial grounds.

The deal is contingent on the passage of an open space referendum in the city of Rocklin. if it goes through, Clover Valley will reduce the number of homes at its proposed development.
