Adam Beach not in business to make money
Friday, January 11, 2008

Adam Beach, the only Native actor on television, says he's not in the entertainment business to make money.

Beach, a member of the Saulteaux First Nation of Manitoba, Canada, would rather be a role model for young Natives. He says he's doing that on his role in the NBC show "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."

"I did what I've been trying to do in 17 -- create a different perception of who we are as Indian people. It's amazing," Beach tells The Sioux City Journal.

Beach, 35, plays Detective Chester Lake, who is Mohawk, on the show. He "Mohawks have a lot of bravado," he says. "They're known for being a really tough, tough nation."

The show airs Tuesdays.
