Muscogee Nation rallies members to hit the polls

The Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma held a get out the vote rally on Thursday.

Speakers urged tribal members to make their voices heard. The tribe has over 16,000 registered voters.

“A lot of issues affect the tribes; people don’t think it does, but they do,” said Nettie Harjo, the tribe's election board office manager, The Tulsa World.

Oklahoma is one of 22 states taking part in "Super Tuesday" next week. Voters in the state will caucus for the Democratic presidential candidates.

Osage Nation Chief Jim Gray says he is supporting Sen. Barack Obama (D-Illinois). He said Obama will respect sovereignty and work with tribes.
