Leech Lake legal director sues Indian newspaper

The ousted legal director for the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in Minnesota is suing the Native American Press/Ojibwe News.

Michael Grabow, who was fired earlier this month, says his reputation is being damaged by the newspaper. Unsigned letters in the independent publication claim Grabow and Chairman George Goggleye will retaliate against tribal employees.

Goggleye has questioned the firing of Grabow by two council members. Grabow was investigating the council members for alleged conflicts of interest.

Grabow's status is in limbo as he pursues an appeal in tribal court. His suit against Bill Lawrence, publisher of the Native American Press/Ojibwe News, was filed in state court.
