Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), the former chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, pulled ahead of his Republican rivals with major victories on Super Tuesday.
McCain won big states like California and New York. But former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee stole the South and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney was strong in the West and in Massachusetts.
After the results, McCain called himself the "front-runner." The next major votes are in Virginia and Maryland next Tuesday.
