House oversight hearing on Interior's 2009 budget
Friday, February 8, 2008

The House Natural Resources Committee is holding an oversight hearing on the Interior Department's fiscal year 2009 budget request.

The hearing takes place Thursday, February 14. Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne is the sole witness.

Rep. Nick Rahall (D-West Virginia), the chairman of the committee, has criticized the budget request. "Funding for the Bureau of Indian Affairs has always been low on the priority list for this White House, but it remains disappointing to see the depths to which the President will plunge in his disregard for basic human needs in Indian Country," he said this week.
