Lumbee attorney to be honored by law school

Arlinda F. Locklear, a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, will be honored at Albany Law School in New York on Thursday.

Locklear has been practicing Indian law for more than 35 years. She was the first Indian woman to argue before the U.S. Supreme Court, winning one of the Oneida Nation's land claim cases.

Locklear will be presented with the Kate Stoneman Award, named for the first woman to graduate from the Albany school.
